Malaysia LNG Plant Orders Siemens Compressors
The Petronas Bintulu liquefied natural gas (LNG) complex in Sarawak, Malaysia, has ordered Siemens turbo compressors and mechanical drive gas turbines to re-liquefy boil-off gas (BOG) from LNG storage tanks. Siemens said the project will deploy the world’s first gas-turbine-driven cryogenic-temperature BOG turbo compressor. It will recapture gas that otherwise would have been flared, increasing LNG production and reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The company will provide a tandem-casing, cryogenic-temperature BOG turbo compressor and a single-casing LNG-refrigerant turbo compressor, both of which will be direct-driven by Siemens SGT-700 mechanical drive gas turbines. The equipment will be delivered by April 2014. Plant startup will be in October 2014. |
